U.S. Sugar Takes Part in Clewiston’s First Walk for Wishes to Help Kids

CLEWISTON, Fla. – More than 100 people took part in Make-A-Wish Southern Florida’s first Walk For Wishes 5K Walk/Run in Clewiston on Saturday, April 9. The event raised money for Make-A-Wish Foundation’s Southern Florida chapter to provide the wishes of Glades and Hendry county children battling life-threatening medical conditions.

“The event was a huge success, and the Clewiston Chamber of Commerce was proud to be part of it,’’ said Hillary Hyslope, executive director of the Clewiston Chamber of Commerce. “America’s Sweetest Town is always eager to get behind good causes like this one that make life better for kids. I look forward to partnering with Make-A-Wish Southern Florida on future events.’’

Following the 5K, walkers, joggers and community members took part in a Family Fun Day with food, a bounce house, games and exhibits. U.S. Sugar was a sponsor of the event, which also helped to raise awareness about the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

“Events like these are great opportunities to bring members of our farming community together for the sake of our children and families in need,’’ said Judy Sanchez, senior director of corporate communications and public affairs for U.S. Sugar. “It’s important to all of us at U.S. Sugar that every child facing a life-threatening illness be able to fulfill his or her special wish.’’

Make-A-Wish Southern Florida grants a wish every 16 hours and has granted more than 10,000 wishes since its inception 31 years ago. For more information about the organization, go to http://sfla.wish.org/.
