U.S. Sugar Teams Up with Red Cross to Provide Smoke Detectors

Red Cross & U.S. Sugar Announce Partnership to Help Protect Families Against Home Fires

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – April 25, 2016 U.S. Sugar, based in Clewiston, Florida, has joined forces with the American Red Cross to drive awareness and promote the lifesaving Red Cross initiative, Home Fire Campaign, in Palm Beach and Martin counties.

“We are extremely grateful to U.S. Sugar for their dedication and ongoing support of the Red Cross mission,” said Robin Nunley, executive director of the American Red Cross’ Palm Beach and Martin County Chapter. “Over the next year, this partnership will allow us to work in some of the most critical areas to help save lives and reduce injuries in a home fire.”

With generous support from U.S. Sugar, the Red Cross in collaboration with local fire departments and community partners will install about 500 fire alarms in 250 homes throughout Belle Glade, Golden Gate, Hobe Sound, Pahokee and South Bay in Palm Beach and Martin counties.

“The safety and security of our families and our communities has always been a priority for U.S. Sugar,” said Judy Sanchez, the Senior Director of Communication and Public Affairs for U.S. Sugar. “By partnering with the American Red Cross, we can help ensure that more families are protected from dangerous home fires.”

Now in its second year, the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign is a sleeves-up, feet-on-the-ground effort that involves Red Cross workers, volunteers and partners going door-to-door in at-risk communities to install smoke alarms and teach families about key fire prevention and safety actions.
