Neil F. Smith was promoted to the position of Vice President of Sugar Manufacturing in May 2006. Smith has held senior management positions in the sugar industries of the United States, Guyana and South Africa. He started his career in the sugar industry in 1980 and joined U.S. Sugar in November 2002. Prior to his current role, Smith led the process design team that modernized U.S. Sugar’s production facilities at Clewiston.
Currently, Smith is responsible for all sugar manufacturing operations, including the managing of one of the world’s largest fully integrated mill and refinery operations in Clewiston. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors for United Sugars Corporation, the Minneapolis-based marketing association that markets U.S. Sugar’s refined sugar products.
Born in England, Smith spent his childhood in England, Scotland, Thailand and South Africa. He is a chemical engineer who studied at the Durban University of Technology in Durban, South Africa.
Smith and his wife, Laura, live in Clewiston, Fla., and have three children and one grandchild.
