Luke Kurtz is Vice President of Legal Affairs for U.S. Sugar. Kurtz joined the company in 2017 as part of the Senior Leadership Team. He is responsible for managing the company’s legal risks and opportunities and assisting other members of the organization execute on strategic objectives.
Prior to joining U.S. Sugar, Kurtz was Assistant General Counsel at Office Depot. During his time there, he helped company integration efforts following the acquisition of large and small enterprises and helped senior management divest international assets and execute the company’s objective to transform to provider of business services and technology.
He has also served as a Director of North American Law and Compliance for Manhães Moreira Advogados Associados in São Paulo, Brazil, where he helped negotiate cross-border transactions and strategic initiatives. Prior to working in Brazil, Kurtz was an Associate in the Corporate Finance Group of the law firm Nelson, Mullins, Riley & Scarborough and an Auditor for Protiviti and Walmart.
Kurtz graduated from SUNY Albany where he was captain of the varsity football team, won two Northeast Conference Championships and received a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with high honors. He earned his Juris Doctor with honors from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
Raised in Clarence Center, New York, Kurtz now lives in Clewiston. He enjoys spending time with family, reading and the outdoors. He is also passionate about helping young athletes achieve their full athletic and academic potential.
