CLEWISTON, Fla. – Employees of Southern Gardens Citrus, a division of U.S. Sugar, spent the summer working toward better health through the company’s summer wellness program, SWEAT.
Employees split into two teams – Team Hamlin led by Oriol Emmanuel and Team Valencia led by Victor Garcia – to compete for points earned through various physical activities, such as walking, Focus T25 workouts, Zumba, yoga and a softball tournament.
“The dog days of summer were anything but lazy here at Southern Garden Citrus,’’ said Bereniz Bogardus, human resources representative for Southern Gardens Citrus. “By working in teams we were able to get healthy and have fun at the same time.’’
SWEAT, which stands for Summer Wellness Event Activity Teams, culminated with a family fun day on July 30 with tug of war, relay races and other games and activities.
At the end of the program, the winning team will receive prizes, and all team members will earn cash awards based on the amount of miles walked and pounds lost. In addition, the company will host a luncheon for all participants, with the captain of the losing team serving the meals.
