Response to Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Open Burn Program Enhancements

Clewiston, Fla. – In response to enhancements announced today by Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Commissioner Nikki Fried, U.S. Sugar Senior Director for Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Judy Sanchez released the following statement:

“We applaud Commissioner Nikki Fried, her staff and the Florida Forest Service for their thoughtful review of the state’s open burn program, which has been recognized nationally as a model for its safe and controlled land management efforts.

With today’s enhancements, Commissioner Fried has formalized into the statewide open burn program a number of “best practices” that many of Florida’s farmers and ranchers have been utilizing for years in sustainably managing their lands.”
