About 36 teams from U.S. Sugar, Southern Gardens Citrus and the South Central Florida Express took part in the fourth annual employee golf tournament to raise money for co-workers in need through the S.A.F.E. (Support A Fellow Employee) fund.

The event was held Sept. 17 at the Clewiston Country Club, which recently renovated its greens, and included lunch served by students in Future Farmers of America. Golfers won door prizes and took part in raffles for clubs, a YETI cooler, gift cards and other prizes.

“It was a birdie kind of day,” said Ashly Sergent, human resources director for U.S. Sugar. “We were able to spend time with co-workers outside of work while raising money for a cause that’s near and dear to us.”

Through raffle proceeds and sponsorships, the event raised $3,100 for the S.A.F.E. fund. The winning golfers of the day were Tommy Spears, Trinidad Reyes and Tim Burke, Sr.
