U.S. SUGAR CORPORATION ANNOUNCES NEXT PRESIDENT AND CEO

May 9, 2005, CLEWISTON, FL— United States Sugar Corporation Chairman of the Board William S. White announced that Robert H. Buker, Jr., will become President and CEO upon the retirement of Robert A. Dolson. Last month, Dolson announced his intention to retire at the end of his five-year commitment to the Board. Buker is currently Executive Vice President, responsible for all sugar operations.

“ Bob Buker has the complete support of both the Board and the entire management team leading the Company. This is a clear signal from the Board of Directors that we have strong senior leadership on the management team and that we want to maintain that strength in the future,” said White.

In making this decision, White said it is very important for the Company to stay focused on effectively executing the plans put in place to radically redesign and modernize the Company’s sugar processing operations, on maintaining the culture associated with the change-oriented direction of U. S. Sugar and on maintaining the strong management team we have in place.

White hopes that this promotion sends a message that there is opportunity for advancement for those who apply their talent, drive and initiative to achieving the Company’s objectives in a change-oriented environment.

“Bob Buker has been part of the senior leadership team for a long time. He is well grounded in all aspects of the business, whether sugar, citrus, regulatory or environmental. He is conversant, not only with the history of the business, but also with the direction the business needs to take. Most importantly, he is a straight shooter in whom the Board, all shareholders and all employees can have full confidence that he will do the right thing all the time,” White said.

“Bill White and the Board of Directors have made it clear that their goal is to maintain the current leadership team intact in order to effectively complete these important projects over the next several years. In other words, to stay on course, on time and on budget as well as looking for future opportunities,” Buker said.

“Over the last five years, Bob Dolson has revitalized the structure, direction and culture of our Company. He has assembled a strong and focused management team who are addressing the issues and making the decisions that will position the Company for the future. We appreciate his contributions to the advancement of the Company. The Board of Directors, Company management and the employees will all miss Bob Dolson and we all wish him well in his retirement,” White said.
