Clewiston, FL — May 19, 2009U.S. Sugar Corporation announced that it has joined Hilliard Brothers, Inc. in their efforts to locate an inland port facility in Hendry County.

“This project would be a great start to the state’s economic transition plan for our community,” Sanchez said.

“We’ve agreed to provide logistical support to Hilliard Brothers as well as provide large scale construction management of potential inland port facilities.  We will also be a transportation partner for the site since we own the railroad infrastructure that operates throughout the Glades region,” said Judy Sanchez, director of corporate communications.

“We certainly have experience in managing all aspects of large scale industrial construction projects in the region.  We’ve built and operated a huge raw mill, a refinery and a citrus processing plant here in the last 20 years,” Sanchez said.

In explaining why U.S. Sugar was joining the effort in support of the Hendry County site, Sanchez said, “They asked.  Plus, we have been working diligently to make sure that the Clewiston community has the necessary economic base for long-term sustainability.”

“Overall, we think that locating an inland port facility in the Glades region will benefit all of the Glades communities,” Sanchez said.
