U.S. Sugar donated $15,000 to the Palm Beach and Martin County chapter of the American Red Cross to provide fire alarms to homes across the area as part of the Red Cross’ Home Fire Campaign.

Judy Sanchez,  Senior Director of Communications and Public Affairs for U.S. Sugar, presented the check during WPTV meteorologist Steve Weagle’s annual Ride for the Red Cross. For the past 17 years, Steve has bicycled from Sebastian to Boca Raton to mark the beginning of hurricane season and raise awareness of the Red Cross.

Now in its second year, the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign involves Red Cross workers and volunteers who go door-to-door in at-risk communities to install smoke alarms and teach families about home fire prevention.
